Engineering Capabilities
Through many years of dedicated effort, the NASC Advanced Acoustics sector has developed and refined multiple areas of expertise. The most vital areas of concentration are reflective of the NASC AAS team dedication to providing the science and technology most valued by the nation’s ASW fleet. The AAS team continues to analyze, develop, and test passive and active acoustic technologies, magnetic non-acoustic detection techniques, air deployment mechanisms, and communication relay systems. Our team also provides data analysis of missions to leaders of the ASW community.

Test Capabilities and Facilities
In addition to the development of products critical to our country’s ASW mission, NASC provides product testing as well as offering the open water facilities in which to prove the validity of new ASW concepts and technology.

Research and Development
The NASC Advanced Acoustics Sector works closely with our government customers to provide extensive research and analysis of advancing underwater threats. We have been awarded numerous Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Contracts to provide next generation underwater acoustic sensors. By conducting thorough threat assessments and mission needs analysis, our engineers can develop design concepts and patterns with specific sensor types, quantity, and spacing.
NASC conducts advanced research into critical technologies and provides an unmatched depth of experience in all aspects of Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) system development. This includes the areas of acoustic performance modeling, transducer calibration, hydromechanical design, and RF electronics and signal processing. The NASC Advanced Acoustics research and engineering team provides real solutions to operational issues confronted by the fleet during ASW missions, improving the effectiveness of Naval Forces.
History
Since 1977, NASC has supported the U.S. Navy in the detection of enemy underwater threats such as submarines, unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs), and mines. NASC began by providing highly specialized acoustics engineering and analysis support to the Naval Air Development Center (NADC) in Warminster, Pennsylvania. Our engineering staff worked with naval base researchers to develop new innovations for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW).
